CHARMES CHAMBERTIN Grand Cru Domaine J. Confuron Cotetidot 2017
(from a .30 ha parcel in Charmes proper). Reduction and wood aromas reveal little else. There is terrific punch to the beautifully well-detailed middle weight plus flavors that exude a lovely sense of underlying tension on the solidly persistent finish. This isn’t as dense as the Clos de Vougeot but it is a bit finer but even so, plenty of patience will still be necessary.
MOREY SAINT DENIS Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru La Riotte Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot 2017
The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte 1er Cru offers lucid red cherry, crushed strawberry and blood orange on the nose, coming across quite vibrant and almost Chambolle-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This is not a deep or powerful wine and might need more grip, but I appreciate the balance and refinement on the finish.
