CHARMES CHAMBERTIN Grand Cru Domaine Lignier-Michelot 2015
The 2015 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru is 100% whole cluster fruit with the same oak regime as the Clos Saint-Denis. It has a seductive and pure bouquet with perfumed red cherries, crushed strawberry, mandarin and cola scents, quite generous but with more to give in the future. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and very well-judged acidity interwoven through the brambly red fruit, leather and cedar. It becomes more masculine and structured towards the finish, almost Mazis in style, with a long spicy aftertaste.
MEURSAULT 1er Cru Poruzot Dessus Domaine Rémi Jobard 2020
(from .50 ha parcel). Here too post-bottling reduction masks much of the underlying fruit though citrus hints peek through. As is almost always the case, there is more volume and power if less refinement to the bigger-bodied flavors that possess fine depth and excellent persistence. This is quite good as well and a wine that should also amply repay up to a decade of cellaring.
