CHASSAGNE MONTRACHET Domaine Fernand & Laurent Pillot 2023
Mostly from La Bergerie with additional parcels in Les Chênes, Les Essards, La Bergerie, Benoîtes and La Corvée plus two other minor contributors. Ripe aromas include those of petrol, rosemary oil and apple that are trimmed in subtle if noticeable wood influence. The succulent, round and delicious medium weight flavors possess both good volume and an attractive mouthfeel, all wrapped in a citrus-inflected, lingering and slightly rustic finale.
CHÂTEAU TALBOT 4ème Cru Classé Saint Julien 2017
Yet more proof of how good 2017 is right now. Cloves, liquorice root, juicy blueberry and salivating, savoury cassis-strewn Cabernet Sauvignon, edge of bitter fennel and smoked almond on the finish, this is great stuff. No need to wait although you absolutely can hold on and get a softer, more finessed experience in a couple of years. 50% new oak for ageing, Jean-Pierre Marty director.
