Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard 2020
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard is new to our offering this year and what a year to bring them in. This Domaine that covers a huge range of villages specialises in whites and over the past decade have raised their stock exponentially. With high acclaim from the 2014 and 2017 vintages, the 2020 has once again suited their style. The wines have a clear purity and minerality as well as a lovely weight and richness of fruit. With Céline Fontaine and her husband Fred Robert (formerly of Armand Rousseau) at the helm, focus and precision is what makes them really stand out.
La Crema Pinot Noir Russian River 2021
La Crema Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is a refined, elegant expression of cool-climate Pinot Noir from one of the world’s premier wine-growing regions. Crafted to showcase the unique terroir of Sonoma County, this wine combines complexity, freshness, and a generous mouthfeel. Meet the producer Founded in 1979, La Crema has focused exclusively on cool-climate appellations. Family-owned and operated, the winery’s philosophy is rooted in capturing the character of each vineyard site, producing wines that are expressive, elegant, and true to their origins. Vineyard and vintage The Russian River Valley AVA benefits from a strong maritime influence from the Pacific Ocean, moderating summer temperatures and allowing grapes to ripen slowly. The 2021 vintage was marked by a relatively dry winter, cold spring with occasional frost, and a warm, dry summer. Drought conditions reduced yields, but the grapes achieved remarkable concentration of flavour and vibrant aromatics. Harvest began on 26th August 2021. Winemaking Fruit is predominantly hand-picked and gently de-stemmed, with 70% whole berries used in tank. The grapes undergo a cold soak at 48°F for 3–5 days, followed by fermentation in open-top tanks with three daily punch downs during active fermentation. Free-run wine settles overnight in tank before being racked into a combination of new and used French oak barrels for 8–9 months. No racking occurs until blending prior to bottling. Tasting notes Deep, expressive aromas of blackberry, raspberry, and spice cake lead to a palate of fresh cherry, boysenberry, and pomegranate. The wine is layered and rich, with a generous, elegant mouthfeel and a long, harmonious finish.
