CHASSAGNE MONTRACHET Rouge Vieilles Vignes Domaine Fernand & Laurent Pillot 2021
(45 to 50-year-old vines situated in six separate lieux-dits). A mentholated top note can be found on the peppery red berry fruit aromas. Here too there is very good density and richness to the unusually full-bodied and succulent medium weight flavors that display good length on the rustic, even robust finale. This is a relatively big Chassagne villages in the context of what is typical for the vintage.
MAINQUÉ Chardonnay Bodega Chacra 2022
Made in collaboration with Jean-Marc Roulot. Aged for 11 months, 46% in barrique (9% new), 36% in stainless-steel tanks and 18% in concrete eggs. No malolactic conversion. Light lemon/gold. Not the most direct nose, but there's no doubting the layers of focused orchard fruit, hedgerow flowers and very subtle gunflint character underneath. Delicious enveloping texture and drive, a touch of mealy, honeyed character. Harmonious texture and saline length.
