Château Alcee 2021

Alcée is the pet project of widely-celebrated winemaker Nicolas Thienpont (of Pavie-Macquin fame especially, one of 2021's wines of the vintage), so it's not a huge surprise to see the wine perform at this level quality, though you still rarely expect to see this in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. Since acquiring the estate in 2011, Nicolas has sought to push quality further and further, converting to organic farming, replanting vines, reducing yields and delaying harvesting until optimum phenolic ripeness. Winemaking is similarly assiduous, with laser-sharp selection at the sorting table and plot-by-plot vinification. The resultant wine speaks to the elegant side of Merlot and arguably bears more in comparison with Pomerol than it does with neighbouring Saint-Émilion.

Pago del Cielo Celeste Crianza 2020

Pago del Cielo Celeste Crianza is an opulent Tempranillo from the DO Ribera del Duero in Spain , crafted by Familia Torres to capture the freshness and intensity of a starry Ribera del Duero night. Deep in colour, generous in body, and layered with fruit, this red wine is a honest and elegant reflection of one of Spain's greatest wine regions. Why You'll Love It Awarded 92 Points by JamesSuckling.com, Celeste Crianza is crafted at some of the highest vineyards in the DO, near Fompedraza and the Duratón River, where the extreme climate and high-altitude soils yield grapes of remarkable quality and concentration. Familia Torres, one of Spain's most respected wine families with a legacy dating back to 1870, brings the same commitment to terroir and precision here as across their entire portfolio. For lovers of classic Ribera del Duero, this is a wine that delivers real depth and character at an outstanding price. Vineyard & Production Sourced from the highest vineyards of the DO, near Fompedraza and the Duratón River, where a unique terroir of moorlands and valleys, combined with Ribera del Duero's extreme continental climate and high-altitude soils, produces grapes of exceptional quality. The wine spends 12 months ageing in French and American oak barrels, followed by a further 12 months of bottle ageing, developing the balance, depth, and structure that define a classic Crianza. Tasting Notes Deep ruby in the glass. The nose offers ripe dark fruit, spice, and a subtle oak influence from the barrel ageing. The palate is elegant and concentrated, with silky tannins, layers of fruit and spice, and a long, lingering finish of real class and balance. Perfect Pairings A natural partner for roasted lamb, beef, and game dishes. Also excellent alongside slow-cooked stews, aged hard cheeses, and classic Spanish tapas. Grape Varieties Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) 100%
