Chateau Beaumont 2021

' Located between Saint-Julien and Margaux, Chateau Beaumont is a member of the Union des Grands Crus and Alliance des Crus Bourgeois. Something of a model in its combination of modern techniques with Medoc tradition, Chateau Beaumont obtained certification of its compliance with Terra Vitis specifications in 2004 as well as the right to use the planned management label, proof of its commitment to environmentally friendly viticultural methods. Eric Boissenot consults at Chateau Beaumont, one of the larger Cru Bourgeois, with 113 hectares in a single block, the vines averaging twenty years of age. Wines spend 12 to 14 months in oak barrels, one-third of them renewed each year. 2021 was marked by a major frost episode in the spring which caused targeted losses on the Merlot. The summer season took a long time to settle in, although there was plenty of sunshine from August onwards. The singularity of this year's climate gives particular nuances to this vintage. These climatic conditions impacted the yields, as happened in 2020, will be slightly lower than in previous years. The harvested grapes were generous, with a good phenolic maturity. They have a remarkable softness and brightness that is conducive to the production of elegant and harmonious wines. The Merlots have very nice ripe fruit, the Cabernet Sauvignons are powerful with fine tannins. '

Domaine des Escaravailles Les Coteaux Rasteau 2020

'The estate gets its name from the Occitan word for beetle, “escaravay”. This was the nickname given by the inhabitants of Rasteau to the Black Penitent monks of Avignon, who owned the farm in the 17th century. The land for the Domaine was bought in 1953 by Jean-Louis Ferran, with a vision to plant it with vines, and it has remained in the Ferran family ever since. This wine comes from a vineyard called “Le Ratanaud” with soils composed of blue clay. These hillsides, located between 330 and 350m of altitude have a south exposition, which brings freshness and perfect maturity to the wine. The grapes are hand-picked and sorted at the vineyard. They are fully destemmed then fermented in concrete tanks, each varietal separately. Vatting time is between 28 to 35 days with daily grape-treading and pumping-over. Ageing is then in concrete tanks for fifteen months. Enjoy with grilled aubergine and feta cheese, aged prime rib, lamb shoulder and garlic cream, Bleu d'Auvergne cheese.'
