Château Canon La Gaffelière, (Magnum) 2022
Located on the pied de côte (foot of the slope) south of the medieval village of Saint-Émilion, Château Canon La Gaffelière's terroir consists of clay-limestone and clay-sand soil that is very permeable and particularly efficient at retaining heat. The Cabernets ripen early and remarkably well on Canon La Gaffelière's warm soil, adding power and aromatic complexity to Merlot's opulence to create wines of natural elegance and finesse. Non-interventionist winemaking is practised and in such a way as to make the most of vintage character.
Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Dugat-Py 2018
Dugat-Py’s 2018 Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes is a wine that struts rather than strolls – generous, layered and heady with spiced dark fruit, rose petals, and a touch of incense. The old vines bring serious concentration, while the 2018 vintage adds warmth and opulence. The palate is plush yet controlled, the tannins fine-grained, and there’s that tell-tale Vosne exoticism humming in the background – think silk and spice in equal measure. Dugat-Py are modern legends in Gevrey-Chambertin, producing some of the most powerful, age-worthy wines in Burgundy. A small family estate with a fierce reputation, they work with very old vines and farm organically.
