Château Cissac 2019
Château Cissac 2019 opens with classic Médoc character: ripe blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, a touch of cedar and tobacco, and that gentle graphite edge that Cabernet Sauvignon brings so well. The palate is structured but polished, with firm yet ripe tannins, fresh acidity and a savoury, lightly spiced finish that keeps things nicely balanced. It’s a natural partner for proper bistro food such as grilled ribeye, roast lamb with garlic and herbs - or a hearty mushroom and lentil dish if you’re keeping things meat-free. The 2019 vintage in Bordeaux was widely praised, combining a warm, dry summer with cool nights before harvest, allowing grapes to ripen fully while retaining freshness. At Château Cissac, a long-established family estate in the northern Haut-Médoc, the result is a wine that captures the vintage’s generous fruit while keeping the Médoc structure that the property is known for.
Meerlust Red 2021
Meerlust Red is a carefully crafted, four-terroir Bordeaux blend from one of Stellenbosch's most historic and celebrated estates, expressing the full character of the Meerlust property in a full-bodied, structured and generously fruited red. Introduced permanently in 2020 to complement the flagship Rubicon, this is an outstanding introduction to the Meerlust range at a very accessible price. Why You'll Love It Meerlust Estate has been in the hands of the Myburgh family since 1756, and under eighth-generation Hannes Myburgh the estate continues to uphold a legacy of quality winemaking from its unique coastal position just five kilometres from False Bay. The cooling maritime influence ensures slow, even ripening across the estate's four distinctive terroirs, each contributing something different to the final blend. The Meerlust Red showcases the estate's focus on young vineyards and consistent quality, delivering genuine Meerlust character at an everyday price. Vineyard & Production Fruit is drawn from four terroirs on the estate: Compagniesdrift with granitic soils producing expressive, bold wines; River Terraces with sandy soils and river stones promoting delicate, fruit-forward character; Quarry with rocky greywacke and shale yielding precision and red fruit; and Lowlands with clay-rich soils creating smooth, silky wines with prominent black fruit. Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot are fermented separately before malolactic fermentation in 300-litre barrels and large foudre. After 8 months in oak the parcels are blended and aged for a further 8 months to achieve harmony and structure. Tasting Notes Youthful ruby red with garnet hues. Aromas of supple red and black fruit, warm spice and subtle oak. The palate is full-bodied and structured, packed with fresh red fruit and soft, rounded tannins. Perfect Pairings Pairs beautifully with casseroles, venison, game, cheese dishes and spicy cuisine. Also excellent with roast lamb, grilled red meats
