CHÂTEAU D'ISSAN 3ème Cru Classé Margaux 2021
Carefully constructed, has precision and plenty of dark fruits, black tea and grilled spices, good quality, slate tannins suggest the structure for long ageing, although the austerity of En Primeur is still present. Softens to show a ripe fig character through the mid palate and a juicy finish, skilful winemaking, understated but enjoyable. 50% new oak. Second year with all five of the major black grape varieties in the blend, and the Malbec and Petit Verdot make their presence felt.
MOREY SAINT DENIS Vieilles Vignes Domaine Lignier-Michelot 2020
(from a blend of Très Girard, Les Cognées and Chenevery). Here the nose is sufficiently reduced that only discreet floral wisps can be discerned. Once again there is a lovely texture to the vibrant, delineated and utterly delicious medium weight flavors that deliver fine length on the moderately austere finish that is so refreshing that one feels like drinking it. This could use a bit more depth, but more should develop in time.
