CHÂTEAU LAROQUE Grand Cru Classé Saint Emilion 2022
The 2022 Laroque has turned out very well indeed in bottle, offering up aromas of cassis, plums, pencil shavings and violets, followed by a medium to full-bodied, suave and vibrant palate that's pure, concentrated and penetrating. Harmonious and integrated, this limestone terroir's identity really shines through.
GONET-MÉDEVILLE Tradition Brut 1er Cru NV
70% chardonnay, 30% pinot noir, 5% meunier; 80% Bisseuil, 15% Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, 5% Mareuil-sur-Aÿ; 80% 2019 base vintage; 10% vinified in old casks; bottled April 2020; disgorged January 2023; 4g/L dosage; 30,000 bottles.
A chardonnay lead is unexpected for a cuvée centred firmly on the premier cru of Bisseuil (between Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Tour-sur-Marne), but the result is compelling, projecting the elegance and purity of both the site and the village in grapefruit tang, lemon freshness and beurre bosc pear crunch with a kiwi fruit tang.
The warm 2019 season sets the stage for a fruity style accented with subtle spice. Low dosage heightens the tang on the finish, though some phenolic bite renders it a fraction bitter.
Tasted in 2023
