CHÂTEAU MONTLANDRIE Côtes de Castillon 2018
The Castillon wine owned by the Durantou family, still being made by the late Denis Durantou in 2018, and one to look out for in a vintage that favoured limestone soils. Raspberry and blueberry fruits dominate, with sweet black cherry coming in as it opens, laced with fragrant tomato leaf and mouthwatering wet stone salinity. I love this wine, it is joyful and consistently impressive. 40% new oak, harvested first few days of October.
LIRAC Rouge Cuvée de la Reine des Bois Domaine de la Mordorée 2021
Fragrant nose of black and blue berries, together with delicate notes of licorice, sandalwood and bergamot. Rich and concentrated, but decisively dry. The fine tannins have a wonderful bitter-chocolate flavor and drive this full-bodied wine over the palate with astonishing briskness. Very long, powdery finish with plenty of spicy complexity. A cuvee of grenache, syrah and mourvedre. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.
