Château Palmer, Alter Ego De Palmer 2022
Château Palmer, Alter Ego de Palmer 2022 is the respected second wine of the Troisième Cru Classé estate in Margaux, Bordeaux, made from vineyards that sit on the region’s classic gravel-rich soils near the Gironde estuary. Alter Ego was created in 1998 not as a mere “second wine” of lesser material, but as a distinct expression of the estate’s terroir using different vinification choices and blending proportions to yield a wine that is more accessible in youth while still reflecting the quality of the terroir. Vinified and aged with care, it's a wine with generous fruit, supple tannins and aromatic depth. The 2022 vintage in Margaux was marked by a warm, dry growing season with some beneficial mid-summer rains, yielding small, perfectly ripe grapes with concentrated phenolics and strong structure. At Palmer this translated into wines with expressive fruit, refined texture and harmonious balance despite the challenging conditions.
Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru 'Les Malconsorts', Domaine du Clos Frantin 2017
Domaine du Clos Frantin is located at the heart of the Côte de Nuits in a beautiful 18th century estate in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Over 50% of their 7.3 hectares of vineyards are Premier and Grand Cru sites, all farmed organically since 2018. The domaine has the largest plantings of Vosne Romanée’s top Premier Cru “Les Malconsorts”, one of the first in line for elevation to Grand Cru status, yet it remains a fiftieth the cost of a bottle of neighbour La Tâche! Neal Martin comments that Maison Bichot (owner of the domaine) can make “really quite delicious, complex wines that often surprise people in blind tastings when not swayed by the label.” We have always selected cuvées which offer comparable quality at a more attractive price than a number of big names - here you’ll find real value and drinking pleasure.
