Chateau Pineraie Cahors Malbec 2022
Château Pineraie Cahors Tradition is a classic expression of Malbec from its ancestral home in southwest France. This refined wine captures the power and depth of the Cahors terroir, offering an authentic taste of the region that inspired the global success of Argentinian Malbec. Meet the producer Château Pineraie is a family-run estate in Cahors, managed by the Burc family since 1456. The property spans 37 hectares across the Lot Valley, where ancient alluvial soils, limestone plateaux, and clay-marl terraces create a mosaic of terroirs. The Burc family’s philosophy combines traditional winemaking with sustainable vineyard management, using minimal intervention and careful yield control to ensure the highest quality fruit. Production The vineyards are planted primarily to Malbec (known locally as Côt) with a small proportion of Merlot. Grapes are hand-sorted and vinified under controlled temperatures of around 30°C. A long maceration of two to three weeks enhances colour, structure, and aromatic depth, supported by frequent pumping over and aeration. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels—20% new—to integrate flavour and texture. Only light filtration is used before bottling to preserve purity and fruit character. Tasting notes Deep ruby in colour, this wine opens with aromas of ripe blackcurrant, cherry, and plum, framed by notes of spice and subtle oak. The palate is full-bodied and layered, displaying juicy black fruit, hints of pepper, and chalky tannins that lend grip and freshness. A long, balanced finish reveals both elegance and structure. Food match Perfect with roasted or grilled red meats, pork in peppercorn or wine sauces, and hearty game dishes. It also pairs beautifully with mature hard cheeses such as Comté or Manchego. Grape Malbec 85%, Merlot 15%
