Château Troplong Mondot, (Magnum) 2022

Since 2017, Château Troplong Mondot has been under new ownership (SCOR) and management by Aymeric de Gironde, who has significantly refined its viticulture and cellar practices. The 2022 vintage marks a fine moment in Troplong Mondot’s more modern era: under the renewed leadership, the wine expresses both power and restraint. The limestone-rich, elevated terroir gives freshness and a chalky backbone, while the winemaking choices (lower new oak, careful selection) allow the purity of fruit to shine. A wine that feels deeply rooted in its place, but crafted with a contemporary sensibility. The estate sits atop Mondot Hill, the highest point in Saint-Émilion, reaching about 110 meters. Its vineyards span roughly 43 hectares, planted on a complex terroir of limestone, clay, and flint soils, which contributes to the wine’s signature minerality.

Echézeaux Grand Cru, Domaine du Clos Frantin 2012

Neal Martin comments that Maison Bichot (owner of the domaine) can make “ really quite delicious, complex wines that often surprise people in blind tastings when not swayed by the label. ” We have always selected cuvées which offer comparable quality at a more attractive price than a number of big names - here you’ll find real value and drinking pleasure. Domaine du Clos Frantin is located at the heart of the Côte de Nuits in a beautiful 18th century estate in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Over 50% of their 7.3 hectares of vineyards are Premier and Grand Cru sites, all farmed organically since 2018. The domaine has the largest plantings of Vosne-Romanée’s top Premier Cru “Les Malconsorts”, one of the first in line for elevation to Grand Cru status, yet it remains a fiftieth the cost of a bottle of neighbour La Tâche!
