CHÂTEAUNEUF DU PAPE Habemus Papam Domaine Santa Duc 2022
The 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Habemus Papam is delicious, opening with melted licorice, black cherry, garrigue and a touch of flesh. Outlined by grippy tannins, the full-bodied 2022 is a seriously structured Habemus Papam that demands at least two more years in bottle. A long and savory finish rounds it up.
MERCUREY 1er Cru Les Vasées Domaine Raquillet 2023
30% new wood. This is aromatically relatively similar to the Clos du Paradis but with a broader range of spice nuances and in particular anise. The succulent, round and equally suave medium weight flavors possess both fine volume and a highly seductive mouthfeel before culminating in a bitter pit fruit and youthfully austere finale. This could use better depth so in contrast to several of the preceding wines, this does need to be cellared for at least a few years.
