CHÂTEAUNEUF DU PAPE les Trois Sources Domaine de la Vieille Julienne 2020
Shows subdued, hidden power and a gorgeous texture, though this is just beginning to unfurl. Warm earth, brown bread and toasted anise notes infuse a perfumed core of red fruit. Racy acidity keeps the tension high, and there's a licorice snap detail on the finish, which is defined, smoky and long. Grenache, Syrah, Cinsaut, Mourvèdre and Counoise.
MEURSAULT Rouge Clos des Mouches Domaine Henri Germain 2021
First picked, 12.4%. Planted in 1949. A smoother softer red fruit than the Chassagne, on the nose, with a colour which has a purple shade to the crimson. Stays fresh, treads lightly and is quite delicious – well worth seeking out for a lighter lunchtime Burgundy.
