Clemens Busch, Marienburg Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel, - Half 2017
Marienburg lies in the Mosel, where steep, south-facing slopes soak up every bit of sunshine in this cool climate. The blue and grey slate soils hold on to that warmth and radiate it back to the vines, helping the grapes ripen slowly while keeping the region’s trademark acidity and mineral edge intact. This Auslese is made from carefully selected, very ripe bunches, often with a little noble botrytis in the mix. Hand-harvesting brings extra concentration and sweetness, but the Mosel’s cool conditions keep everything bright and precise. The result is a luscious yet beautifully balanced Riesling, full of vivid fruit, freshness and crystalline clarity. The ‘Goldkapsel’ label marks out a special selection from the Spätlese harvest, from riper, more concentrated grapes, giving the wine added depth, intensity and complexity.
Clemens Busch, Marienburg Riesling Spätlese Goldkapsel 2023
The Clemens Busch Marienburg Riesling Spätlese Goldkapsel is one of the estate’s most expressive sweet wines, drawn from carefully selected grapes grown on the steep slate slopes of the famed Marienburg vineyard in Pünderich; it’s lusciously sweet yet balanced by vibrant acidity, giving it lift and freshness. The 'Goldkapsel' designation signals a special selection from the Spätlese harvest - often made from riper, more concentrated grapes, yielding greater depth, complexity, and intensity. The term Spätlese literally means “late harvest” in German, referring to grapes picked later in the season when they’ve developed more sugar and flavour concentration. Unlike Auslese or higher Prädikat levels, Spätlese wines can range from delicately off-dry to fully sweet, always with a fine interplay of sweetness and acidity.
