Familia Torres Purgatori Costers del Segre 2022
Torres Purgatori is a rich and expressive red wine from the Costers del Segre DO in Catalonia, Spain , crafted from a blend of Garnacha and Cariñena . With roots in one of Catalonia's most historic vineyard sites, this wine reflects the unique Mediterranean terroir of the region with elegance, depth, and real character. Why You'll Love It Familia Torres is one of Spain's most respected and innovative wine families, with a legacy dating back to 1870. Purgatori takes its name from the dramatic landscape of the Costers del Segre, a rugged, high-altitude wine region in inland Catalonia that produces wines of remarkable concentration and personality. The combination of Garnacha's warmth and generosity with the structure and spice of Cariñena creates a wine that is both deeply traditional and unmistakably modern in its precision and balance. Vineyard & Production Grapes are sourced from vineyards that benefit from the region's warm, dry Mediterranean climate and challenging soils, producing fruit of intense concentration and expressive aromatic potential. The wine undergoes 7 to 10 days of skin contact before alcoholic fermentation in cement and stainless steel tanks at 22 degrees. Malolactic fermentation occurs entirely in barrel, followed by 15 to 18 months ageing in 100% oak barrels, with 30% new French Nevers oak adding richness and complexity. Tasting Notes Intense cherry red in the glass. The nose offers a seductive bouquet of red roses, black cherry jam, and Mediterranean spice, including clove, pine, carob, and dried fruits. The palate is warm and nervy, with a vibrant, lively finish that showcases the wine's fine structure and depth. Perfect Pairings Pairs beautifully with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, stews, and mature cheeses. Also excellent alongside slow-cooked lamb and hearty Mediterranean dishes. Grape Varieties Garnacha and Cariñena
