Clos I Terrasses, Laurel 2019
The Laurel is the estate’s marvellous second wine (although this is more like a Forts de Latour or Carruades de Lafite than a mere second label!), which is also on fine form in 2019. If you like rich, southern Rhone-ish style wines but also appreciate freshness and balance, if you like round, supple, velvety tannins, and wines with spicy, high-toned cassis and forest fruit character, if you like wines from exciting, up-and-coming regions with exceptional critical ratings at unexpectedly reasonable prices, in other words if you like wine...then you should really take a case or three of this!
Volnay Premier Cru 'Clos des Chênes', Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard 2018
This wine is beautifully generous, with inviting aromas of violets—a classic hallmark of Volnay—alongside vibrant red berries. The palate is silky and expressive, with refined yet firm tannins adding structure. Whether enjoyed in its youth or after a decade of aging, this wine is sure to impress at any stage. The wines from Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard have a clear purity and minerality as well as a lovely weight and richness of fruit. The focus and precision is what makes them really stand out and with Céline Fontaine and her husband Fred Robert (formerly of Armand Rousseau) at the helm, you best keep a close eye on how high this Domaine will climb!
