Clos Pons Sisquella (2019cl) 2019

' The Clos Pons winery in the Costers del Segre DO area comes highly recommended to us. It is located in the region of Las Garrigas, South of the province of Lleida, in the municipalities of the Albages and La Pobla de Cervoles. Scarce rainfall, cold winters and very warm summers, an altitude of 500 to 700 metres and poor soil constitute the ideal space for wine of great quality, eco-friendly in our case. The winery is located on a hill that overlooks the whole vineyard - a plan not unlike the concept of the French ''Chateau'' or the American ''Estate''. All the wine is made here through a combination of technology and traditional methods. Everything is designed to work with respect for quality and to maintain the properties of the ''terroir'' to the maximum in the wines. Extreme weather conditions and low production volumes are reflected in their red wines - intense deep colour, strong aromas of ripe fruit and then an elegant touch of oak from the winemaker. '

Moulin de Gassac Faune 2023

' In 1971, Veronique and Aime Guibert bought a Mas (farmhouse) and abandoned mill in the heart of a beautiful, wild valley through which flowed the Gassac river. After consulting Prof. Henri Enjalbert they planted vines in clearings in the middle of 4,000 hectares of forest - he was convinced they had the ''terroir'' to produce a Grand Cru of the future. The first vintage of their flagship red was produced in 1978 from roughly 80% Cabernet Sauvignon. By 1982, a respected French wine guide described Mas de Daumas Gassac as the Chateau Lafite of the Languedoc. The Rose Frizant was created in 1981, also from the younger Cabernet vines. Today, the children of the Guibert family manage the estate, storing their harvests in an old cellar underneath the original mill. The five brothers have continued to fine tune the Mas de Daumas Gassac's Grand Vin and broaden the range with varietal wines and blends that offer great value for money under their Moulin de Gassac label.
