Cloudy Bay Chardonnay 2022
Often overlooked in favour of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon blanc, their chardonnay is simply put as a fantastic wine. The appealing nose of the 2019 chardonnay affords aromas of stonefruit, white floral, smokey oak and spice. The palate it fresh and lively with a bright acid backbone. Flavours abound of nectarines & peaches, juicy citrus and grapefruit pith. Good length with delicate texture and a fine mineral thread. This chardonnay is an ideal partner to richer foods such as steamed crab, grilled white fish and fresh egg noodle pasta.
Torbreck Vintners, The Steading Blanc 2023
The Torbreck The Steading Blanc 2023 is a beautifully balanced Rhône-style white from the Barossa Valley, blending Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne. It opens with inviting aromas of white peach, honeysuckle, and citrus blossom, followed by hints of almond and spice. It’s generous but fresh - creamy stone fruit and citrus framed by a gentle mineral edge and a touch of texture from partial barrel ageing. The finish is smooth and elegant, leaving a lingering note of peach and lemon zest. Torbreck was established in 1994 from the resurrection of old vines vineyards that had fallen into disrepair on selected sites in The Barossa Valley. Twenty five years later Torbreck makes 19 different cuvées to continued acclaim, sourcing fruit from a number of old, some might say ancient, dry-farmed vines in vineyards. It will come as no surprise to anyone who has tasted them that Torbreck’s wines have been something of a tribute to the great wines of the Rhône Valley while remaining essentially Barossa.
