Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir 2021

Cloudy Bay first made pinot in 1989 and the winemaking team has been obsessed with the variety ever since. This year the second crop was harvested from the 'Barracks Vineyard', an elevated site in the Omaka Valley dedicated almost entirely to pinot. In the winery, the purpose-built pinot cellar allows the winemakers to handle as many as 40 unique parcels of wine from 25 different sites with the utmost precision and care. These are carefully blended to create a true expression of the variety, the vintage, and 'our place'. Cropped at very low levels from prime Marlborough vineyard sites, Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir is rich in regional fruit character. Typically it has an intensely varietal palate that reveals layers of dark red fruits, savoury dried herbs, charry oak and silky tannins. Intensely fragrant with alluring aromas of dark plums and lifted hints of blueberry, layered over spicy sandalwood and smoky bacon. The palate is succulent and flavoursome with dark fruits and toasty oak gently supported by plush

Volnay Village, Jane Eyre 2017

Melbourne-born Jane Eyre-Renard, one of the pioneers of the growing micro-negotiant movement, continues her inexorable rise with a super set of 2017s, following on from her critically lauded 2016s. Based in Burgundy since 2003 she has paid her dues at some top domaines including de Montille and Comtes Lafon and still assists the winemaking at Domaine Newman, whilst making her own wines in a facility shared with Dominique Lafon. Her wines, whether from Beaune, Nuits, or Beaujolais, display her distinctive style - charming and inviting, with supple tannins and soft but bright fruits. Gentle extraction and oaking, and early bottling means these are among the more immediately accessible Burgundies in our portfolio. Jane is rightly pleased with her wines in 2017, a vintage which she says you can really see the terroirs shine through, where hotter years can obscure both the vineyard and the level. "Contrasting aromas of iodine and a crisp Autumn morning in a rose garden, with a herbaceous raspberry note. Palate shows prettier fruit, tight but sweet red berries and touch of plum skin. Lithe acidity gives clean, elegant lines to the perfumed, supple fruit. Very appealing, very Audrey (Hepburn)." Tom Harrow
