CORNAS Pur Granit Domaine Lionnet 2020
The 2020 Cornas Pur Granit is brilliant stuff. Ripe black cherries, blueberries, scorched earth, smoked game, and iron are just some of its nuances, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a pure, layered, focused texture, plenty of tannins, and a great finish. This classic Cornas needs 3-5 years of bottle age and I suspect will still bring drinking spectacularly well in 15+ years.
POMMARD Tavannes Domaine Fernand & Laurent Pillot 2023
A discreet application of wood sets off softly earth aromas of mostly various red berries and a hint of anise. There is again very good energy to the acceptably concentrated middle weight flavors that possess a relatively refined mouthfeel while delivering fine length on the dusty and youthfully austere finale. Note that this well-balanced effort is firm enough to repay mid-term cellaring. Worth a look.
