Corte Giara La Groletta Ripasso della Valpolicella 2023

Corte Giara started life in 1989 as the negociant label of famed Valpolicella producer Allegrini. Over several years Corte Giara purchased the vineyards they source from, and now all grapes are estate-grown. Throughout this evolution, the Allegrini family have made these wines with the same attention to detail that their Valpolicella estate is famed for. As a result, the Corte Giara wines have a reputation for quality that sets them apart from most of the Veronese wines produced at this level. The vineyards are situated on south-east facing hillsides in the Valpolicella DOC, at an altitude of 180-250 metres above sea level. Soils here comprise of calcareous stone and clay. The vines average over 34 years of age and are trained using the Arbour training system, and grow at a density of approximately 3,000 vines per hectare. This wine was made using the traditional Veronese “Ripasso” technique. The grapes were destemmed and gently crushed before being fermented in temperature controlled stainless-steel tanks, with daily pumping over. A second fermentation was started by adding Amarone pomace to the must, to add body and depth, continuing for eight to ten days. The wine was aged for four months in stainless-steel tanks, and then in large Slavonian oak barrels for 11 months prior to bottling.

Zarihs Syrah by Borsao 2020

A bold, high-altitude Syrah from the foothills of Moncayo, crafted in collaboration with Borsao winemakers Victor Vidal, Marta Chicote, and Syrah specialist Chris Ringland. Rich, structured, and expressive, this wine combines power with elegance. Meet the producer Founded in 1959 as a co-operative, Bodegas Borsao has grown into a benchmark for quality wines in Campo de Borja. In 2001, it joined forces with two progressive co-operative wineries, combining tradition with modern innovation. Production The Syrah vines, planted over 22 years ago at 600–700m altitude, thrive on limestone soils and benefit from full sun and the refreshing Cierzo wind. Grapes are hand-selected, macerated for 4–5 days, and fermented for 15–20 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. 60% of the wine remains in stainless steel to preserve fruit purity, while 40% matures for 12 months in new American oak, adding complexity and depth. Tasting notes Powerful and expressive, with aromas of ripe black fruits and sweet blackcurrant, layered with hints of coffee and warm vanilla. The palate delivers wild blackberry, black pepper, and toasty oak, supported by firm acidity and a long, serious finish. Food match Ideal with roasted or grilled lamb and beef, but also works beautifully with pork belly and duck. Grape Syrah 100% .
