Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Domaine de Montille 2023
"Big and bold, this wine showcases pineapple, honey, and a touch of cinnamon spice. With a 2007 vineyard replanting complementing 75-year-old vines, it is layered and textured with excellent acidity. Already approachable, it promises to deepen with age." Our note The 2023 vintage reflects a year of moderate warmth with consistent sunshine, leading to steady, well-paced ripening. Although temperatures weren’t extreme, the shift to warmer nights and milder days contributed to extended growing periods. This translated into wines that are strikingly fresh, with lower alcohol levels, vivid acidity, and vibrant character—brighter and more approachable compared to recent years. Whites carry their hallmark freshness and minerality, further underscored by the decision to reduce the percentage of new oak due to the larger volumes produced. The domaine features as one of the Top 10 Côte de Beaune Red Wine, and White Wine Producers in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2023 Special Report.
Meursault 'Les Criots', Domaine du Pavillon, (Magnum) 2023
Another stellar set of wines from Albert Bichot. Bichot continues its unwavering commitment to excellence, crafting wines of precision and elegance. Certified organic since 2018, the domaine integrates sustainability into its approach, ensuring a thoughtful balance between tradition and innovation. "Ripe lemons and subtle zest define the nose, complemented by minerality and a generous, lush palate. Excellent acidity supports its richness, resulting in a beautifully balanced wine with elegance and finesse." Our note The 2023 vintage, shaped by Matthieu Mangenot’s expertise, reflects a shift from the previous year with less use of whole bunch fermentation, focusing instead on purity and clarity of fruit. Across the range, the wines showcase impressive structure, vibrant acidity, and nuanced expressions of their respective terroirs, promising early approachability for some and significant aging potential for others.
