Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc Organic 2024
Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc is a refined expression of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, showcasing the precision and elegance of the region. The grapes are hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed before cold settling and fermentation, with 85% fermented using indigenous yeasts. The wine is matured for four months in stainless steel tanks and bottled without fining, preserving the purity of the fruit. Vineyard The grapes are sourced from vines averaging 26 years of age, including plantings dating back to 1984, yielding 8.9 tonnes per hectare. The vineyard soils are primarily silty-clay loams, with some parcels featuring interspersed gravels, giving the wine a subtle mineral dimension. Vintage Conditions The season began with a moderately dry and mild winter and spring, with budburst in early October and minimal frost events. Flowering occurred in early to mid-December under variable conditions, helping moderate yields. Dry, warm weather persisted through late summer, breaking a 94-year drought record with only 32mm of rainfall. Cool autumn nights and abundant sunshine preserved acidity and freshness, resulting in a memorable vintage. Winemaking After hand harvesting, grapes undergo whole-bunch pressing and cold settling. Fermentation is mostly indigenous, and the wine is aged in stainless steel to retain vibrancy and aromatic purity. No fining is applied prior to bottling. Tasting Notes Pale straw in colour, the nose is pure and bright, with citrus aromas including grapefruit, lemon, lime, and mandarin. Subtle gravelly nuances add complexity. On the palate, juicy and fresh flavours lead into riper stone fruit notes, delivering intensity and generosity. The mid-palate is lifted by refreshing acidity, culminating in a crisp, quenching finish. Food Pairing Ideal with fresh seafood, shellfish, goat’s cheese, or light summer salads.
