Dom Bella Elegance Pinot Noir 2023
Bella Élégance is the flagship range of Quinta de Bella, crafted to reflect the unique character of its terroir through traditional sustainable viticulture. Nestled in the historic Dão region, in the village of Prime, parish of Fragosela, near Viseu, the estate covers approximately 70 hectares along the banks of the Dão River. Terroir Situated around 380 metres above sea level, the estate enjoys a distinctive microclimate influenced by the Dão River, offering excellent sun exposure and high-quality granitic sandy soils, locally known as “rotten granite” or “noble granite.” Vineyards are planted at high density with narrow spacing, combining careful human intervention with minimal herbicide use to preserve the natural richness of the land. Inspired by the traditional Bordeaux and Burgundy method “Les Quatre Façons,” this approach allows the vines to express the full complexity and character of the terroir. Enology Bella Élégance wines are made under the guidance of Pascal Chatonnet, who brings extensive expertise in crafting wines that combine elegance, purity, and a true sense of place. Style The Bella Élégance range produces wines that are expressive, concentrated, and age-worthy, reflecting the mineral, floral, and fruit-driven profile of the Dão region while retaining freshness and structure.
Smalltown Vineyards Clovella Mataro Grenache 2019
Clovella is a field planting of roughly 60/40 Grenache and Mourvedre. It is a 40 year old vineyard from the Gomersal sub-district of the Barossa Valley that Rolf Binder has been cultivating himself for many years. The wine spends 22 months in older French oak. The purpose of this wine is to show Mourvèdre and Grenache with some development rather than the super-juicy-young-bright Grenache of the moment. It starts with cassis, a nose full of promise. Clove and black pepper spice. The palate is dark and sultry with a dried fruit appeal. It finishes with a gentle lick of oak from the time the wine spends in oak.
