Edmeades Zinfandel Mendocino County 2022

Edmeades Zinfandel is a bold, expressive red from the rugged coastal vineyards of Mendocino County, Northern California. Known for its authenticity and sense of place, this wine reflects the distinctive terroir of the Mendocino Ridge, Redwood, and Ukiah valleys. Crafted using traditional, low-intervention methods, it highlights the pure expression of the region’s soils and climate. History & Philosophy Edmeades has been producing limited-bottling, site-driven wines since 1972, originating from the first modern-day vineyard planted in Anderson Valley by Dr. Donald Edmeades in 1963. Acquired by the Jackson family in 1988, the winery remains committed to natural winemaking: native yeast fermentations, hand punch downs, minimal manipulation, and no fining or filtration. This approach ensures each vintage expresses the unique character of Mendocino County. Winemaking The 2022 Zinfandel is fermented with native yeasts in small, open-top bins. After fermentation, the wine is aged for nine months in a combination of 57% French oak and 43% American oak, allowing for integration of spice and structure while preserving vibrant fruit. Tasting Notes The nose opens with aromas of baking spices such as cinnamon and cloves, leading to blackberries, black currants, and dried sage. On the palate, the wine is lush and round, with subtle, integrated tannins and balanced acidity, delivering a fresh and focused finish. Food Matching Pairs beautifully with grilled meats, hearty stews, barbecued dishes, and aged cheeses. Nebbiolo Martinenga Marchesi di Gresy 2023

A benchmark example of young, unoaked Nebbiolo from the historic Martinenga vineyard in Barbaresco. This is Nebbiolo in its purest form – fresh, elegant and approachable, with lifted fruit, floral notes and the hallmark structure of Piemonte’s most noble grape variety. A true introduction to Nebbiolo that balances character and finesse. Meet the producer Marchesi di Grésy is widely regarded as one of Piemonte’s top producers, renowned for their uncompromising quality and their role in defining Barbaresco’s identity. With four separate estates, the family’s jewel is undoubtedly Martinenga – a monopole vineyard in the heart of Barbaresco that has long been recognised as a benchmark for the region. Production Sourced from 11 hectares of Nebbiolo planted on the Martinenga estate, with vines facing south-west at 280 metres above sea level. The soils are calcareous with touches of sand, perfectly suited to Nebbiolo. Vines are Guyot-trained, with densities between 3,000–4,500 per hectare, and carefully managed throughout the growing season with pruning, bud control, leaf plucking, and green harvesting where necessary. Grapes are hand-harvested in early October, then destemmed and crushed before maceration on skins (submerged cap) for 6–7 days at 27–29°C. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, where it remains until bottling in early spring to preserve freshness and varietal purity. Tasting notes Expressive aromas of strawberry, redcurrant, and rose petals are layered with savoury, gamey notes. The palate shows crushed wild berries, smoky nuances and a fine, firm tannic backbone balanced by refreshing acidity. A youthful yet classic style of Nebbiolo, showcasing both vibrancy and depth. Food match Ideal with roast lamb, hearty stews or rich meat dishes that complement Nebbiolo’s tannins and fresh acidity. Grape Nebbiolo 100%
