El Enemigo Cabernet Franc 2017
El Enemigo is the joint venture between Adrianna Catena, daughter of Dr Nicolas Catena, and Alejandro Vigil, who also doubles as Catena’s chief winemaker. They specialise in Cabernet Franc and have won numerous plaudits for their single vineyard Gran Enemigo Cab Francs from their Gualtallary, Agrelo, Cepillo and Chacayas vineyards. Now we are pleased to offer their Enemigo Cab Franc 2017, sourced from their Gualtallary vineyards, and which has recently received 95 pts from Tim Atkin and 93 pts from the Wine Advocate (see below for the reviews). "Made 'like a flan', according to Ale Vigil, this is a co-fermented blend of Cabernet Franc and 8% Malbec, with lots of whole bunches and aged in old wooden foudres. Zesty and fresh, with the low alcohol and focus that are a feature of El Enemigo style, it’s savoury and bright with salty minerality and graphite and green herb flavours." Wine Advocate 93 Points "The expressive and elegant 2017 El Enemigo Cabernet Franc has some 8% Malbec in the blend. It's a subtle red with nuance and detail, very harmonious, aromatic, even floral within the spicy character of the variety. The palate is medium-bodied, the tannins are very fine and there's moderate alcohol and very good freshness and harmony. This matured in oak foudres for some 15 months. 25,000 bottles produced."
Torbreck Old Vines Grenache Mourvedre Shiraz 2022
Torbreck Old Vines Grenache Mourvèdre Shiraz 2022 is a premium Barossa Valley GSM blend produced by Torbreck Vintners . The estate combines traditional Rhône-inspired winemaking techniques with modern practices to craft wines that are rich, expressive and balanced. Sourced from mature old vines across the Barossa Valley, the wine showcases the intensity and complexity of the region while retaining elegance and vibrancy. Production This red is a blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Shiraz. Each variety is harvested carefully and fermented separately to preserve its character before maturation in seasoned oak. The wine is aged to integrate the tannins, enhance structure and achieve a harmonious, full-bodied style. Tasting notes The wine displays aromas of ripe red berries, dark cherries and subtle spice on the nose. On the palate, it is full-bodied and layered with blackberry, plum and savoury notes, supported by fine, well-integrated tannins and a long, persistent finish. Its vibrant fruit and complexity make it approachable yet age-worthy. Food match Pairs beautifully with slow-roasted lamb, grilled rib-eye steak, game dishes or mature hard cheeses.
