Founded by Gregory Perrucci, the estate is dedicated to producing authentic Puglian wines that express the unique terroir of the Manduria region, particularly its distinctive iron-rich red soils. Production The Primitivo vines grow in shallow red soils typical of the Manduria region, characterized by high levels of iron oxides that impart distinctive minerality. Harvested at the start of September, the grapes are fermented and then matured for around 6 months in French barriques to add complexity while preserving the vibrant fruit character. Tasting Notes Aromas of cherry, red berry and balsamic notes from oak ageing. The palate has ripe fruits, bright acidity and rounded tannins with a mineral edge from the iron-rich soils. Smalltown Vineyards Clovella Mataro Grenache 2019
Clovella is a field planting of roughly 60/40 Grenache and Mourvedre. It is a 40 year old vineyard from the Gomersal sub-district of the Barossa Valley that Rolf Binder has been cultivating himself for many years. The wine spends 22 months in older French oak. The purpose of this wine is to show Mourvèdre and Grenache with some development rather than the super-juicy-young-bright Grenache of the moment. It starts with cassis, a nose full of promise. Clove and black pepper spice. The palate is dark and sultry with a dried fruit appeal. It finishes with a gentle lick of oak from the time the wine spends in oak.
