Fromm, Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Based in the Southern Valleys in Marlborough, Fromm was established in the 90s, undergoing organic conversion in 2005, and has rapidly developed a cult reputation for its range of single vineyard reds & whites. Winemaking is Burgundian, with little more than 3,000 cases produced annually. The vineyards are farmed by hand, grapes hand-picked, whilst in the winery they use wild yeasts, aging in Burgundian oak barrels, bottling with no fining or filtration and minimal sulphur. The resultant wines combine all the elegance, structure and suaveness of Burgundy yet with that signature plushness of NZ fruit, making them very attractive indeed. "Cool and bright, showing zesty freshness upfront, with an underlying intensity that's both thirst-quenching and complex. Full of lemons and limes, a touch of grapefruit, freshly cut-grass, green bell pepper and elderflower all rolled-up together with some black current leaf and just a subtle hint of trademark Marlborough passionfruit. Very nicely balanced, a near-perfect blend of southern hemisphere sunshine and old world subtlety. Delicious." Our note
Mas De Daumas Gassac, Blanc, - Half 2020
A blend of Viognier, Chardonnay, Petit Manseng, and a touch of Chenin Blanc, this is a distinctive wine with plenty of character. Medium-bodied and textured, it unfolds in layers of tropical fruit, ripe stone fruit, and a drizzle of honey. The finish is long and lingering, keeping that richness in balance. A great match with French onion soup. Famous for its Grands Vins, the Mas de Daumas Gassac has been a family owned vineyard for more than 40 years and belongs to the Guibert family. The estate is set in a wild and enchanting valley, close to the magnificent romanesque abbey of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert. 50 hectares of a deep, well drained soil, free from any chemical fertilisers.
