Fromm, The Curation Pinot Noir 2020
The 2020 Curation Pinot Noir from Fromm is bright, supple, and sophisticated. It opens with lifted aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and a touch of spice, layered with hints of dried herbs and earth. The palate is silky and fine-boned, showing juicy fruit upfront, then tightening into a more savoury, mineral edge that speaks clearly of its Marlborough origins. The tannins are gentle but present, giving the wine shape without weighing it down. One of New Zealand's rising stars, Fromm Vineyards has built a strong reputation for elegant, site-driven wines since its founding in the 1990s. The estate has always leaned towards organic farming and a hands-off approach in the cellar, letting the vineyards do the talking. The Curation Pinot brings together fruit from their top sites, offering a snapshot of the estate’s style: pure, balanced, and confident.
Protos 27 Ribera del Duero 2021
' Founded in 1927 by 11 forward-thinking locals, the Protos winery, the first in Ribera del Duero, has an attitude of constant improvement with the sole aim of crafting the best possible wine. For the last 10 years, Protos has been studying every plot of land it owns, observing how Tempranillo clones adapt and change in each location to gain a deeper understanding of the vine, and ultimately craft the best expression of each terroir. The vineyard area spans an enormous 1,400 hectares throughout the Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Cigales DO's, with some of the vines aged at between 50 and 100 years old. The soils are a mixture of loam-clay-sand, as well as some limestone and silt. The winery at Bodegas Protos was designed in 2008 by Rogers Stirk Harbour and is an architectural delight - well worth a visit if you find yourself in Ribera del Duero! In 2024, Bodegas Protos ranked in the '50 Most Admired Wine Brands in the World' by the prestigious Drinks International magazine. '
