Funkstille Skin Contact 2025
Funkstille Skin Contact is a striking skin-contact white wine from Weinviertel in Austria , crafted from a blend of Grüner Veltliner , Muscat, and other varieties by a 16th-generation producer in Niederösterreich. Vibrant, aromatic, and defined by razor-sharp acidity and a gentle tannic grip, it is one of the most distinctive and characterful wines in the Funkstille range. Why You'll Love It Funkstille, meaning 'radio silence' in German, is a thoughtfully curated range of Austrian wines designed to bring a sense of calm and focus to modern life. Working with a 16th-generation producer whose estate is sustainably certified by agroVet and operates as an energy-neutral winery, generating more energy than it consumes through a biogas plant and photovoltaic system, Funkstille showcases Austria's most celebrated grape varieties in striking contemporary packaging. This skin-contact wine is the most adventurous expression in the range, offering a genuine sense of place and a style that rewards curious drinkers. Vineyard & Production Grapes are harvested early in the morning by hand and machine from trellis-grown vines aged over 15 years in Weinviertel, on a mix of loess, clay, and granite soils at 230 to 300 metres above sea level. The estate produces its own fertiliser and seeds for cover crops, with young vines protected from dry stress using straw from surrounding fields. After pressing, the must is left in contact with the skins to extract the orange colour and additional flavour compounds, before fermentation in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts for 15 to 25 days. No malolactic fermentation is carried out, but the wine benefits from eight weeks on the lees before gentle fining and cold stabilisation. Tasting Notes Vibrant and aromatic, with notes of ginger, white pepper, and flowers, complemented by subtle hints of green tea and mandarin. The palate is defined by razor-sharp acidity, a gentle tannic grip from the skins, and generous fruit intensity with every
