Gaja Camarcanda 2018

Gaja Ca'Marcanda is the flagship wine from Gaja's prestigious Bolgheri estate, a powerful expression of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grown on distinctive white soils rich in limestone, firm clay, and stones. This wine showcases the solid, complex structure and remarkable mineral character that define premium Bolgheri wines from one of Italy's most legendary producers. Why You'll Love It This is Bolgheri at its pinnacle—rounded, dense, and remarkably mineral-driven with smooth tannins and a lingering finish. As the flagship wine from Gaja's Ca'Marcanda estate, this represents the culmination of one of Italy's greatest wine families bringing their expertise to Tuscany's coastal region. With 12 months in oak, 6 months in concrete, and additional bottle ageing, this wine delivers exceptional complexity, structure, and ageing potential worthy of its prestigious pedigree. Vineyard & Production Sourced from vineyards planted on distinctive white soils rich in limestone, firm clay, and stones—essential elements that give the wine its solid, complex structure and mineral character. The two varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, are fermented and macerated separately for around 15 days. After 12 months of ageing in oak and a further 6 months in concrete vessels, they are blended and aged for several months in bottle before release. Tasting Notes Flowery nose with red fruit and root notes typical of Mediterranean scrub. The palate is rounded with dense texture and remarkable mineral character. Lingering finish with smooth tannins and exceptional depth. Full-bodied with layers of complexity and refinement. Perfect Pairings A worthy match for roast meats, grilled steak, mature cheeses, wild game, or rich Italian cuisine. Also excellent with Florentine steak, braised short ribs, aged Parmigiano-Reggiano, or hearty casseroles. Grape Variety Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc

La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion, (Magnum) 2020

We find La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion slightly intimidating to classify. Calling it a 'second wine' feels like calling the Duke of Edinburgh a spare. This 2020 magnum delivers the power and sophistication that makes Pessac-Léognan famous, with the blackcurrant intensity and mineral backbone that earned it 96 points from James Suckling.
