Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru 'Lavaux Saint Jacques', Domaine Duroché 2019
"Deep red fruit and warm baked spices. Muscular tannins and a powerful core, showing great length and promise with aging." Our note Having been propelled in to the very front ranks of Burgundy’s most sought-after growers, for all Pierre remains as diffident and charming as ever. With ever increasing global demand for allocations, we never get as much of his Grands Crus as we’d like but the quality and value across the range is always exciting and we are delighted to have a good supply of Pierre’s various expressions of Gevrey-Chambertin.
Pommard Premier Cru 'Les Epenots', Special Barrel, Philippe Pacalet, (Magnum) 2023
"From 50-year-old vines planted on mid-slope clay soils, combining 10% Petit Epenots with Grands Epenots. Deep cherry hue with an expressive nose of sweet fruit, allspice, and floral notes. The palate reveals crunchy red fruit, balanced acidity, hints of liquorice, fine tannins, and exceptional length. A complete and elegant wine." Nathan Hill, Honest Grapes Co-founder After last year’s sell-out success, the Pacalets have once again given us exclusive access to their cellars. Tasting in Burgundy with our Hospices Syndicate Members, we selected the outstanding Pommard Premier Cru des Epenots as our next crowdfunded barrel project. This tête de cuvée comes with a special label for Honest Grapes Club Members. The 2023 vintage suits Philippe’s style perfectly: reds with extended time in barrel for added finesse, seamless whole-bunch integration, minimal new oak, and a focus on purity of fruit and terroir. Elegant yet structured, they’re wines that can be enjoyed young or laid down to age gracefully. "Limestone-clay; located on the foothills of the Pommard hill, it faces south. The soil is made up of a mixture of red clay and pebbles. Notes of blackberries, spices, wild strawberries. Smooth, structured; retro-olfaction leaves a touch of violets. Rich, elegant with gorgeous freshness." Philippe Pacalet Pacalet features as one of the Top 15 Négociants & Cooperatives in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2023 Special Report.
