Ricasoli Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio 2020
Barone Ricasoli Castello di Brolio is the flagship wine of one of Italy's most historic and celebrated estates, crafted exclusively from estate-grown Sangiovese and expressing the full complexity and elegance of the Brolio terroir. A Chianti Classico Gran Selezione of exceptional refinement, produced only in the finest vintages and aged for 23 months in tonneaux, this is Tuscan winemaking at its most ambitious and rewarding. Why You'll Love It Barone Ricasoli's roots date back to 1141, making it one of the oldest wine estates in Italy and a defining force in the history of Chianti Classico. Located in the heart of the appellation, the estate is widely credited with shaping the identity of the region's wines, and Castello di Brolio is its most prestigious expression. Today, the Ricasoli family continues to champion innovation and sustainability while honouring centuries of Tuscan winemaking tradition. Gran Selezione represents the pinnacle of the Chianti Classico pyramid, and this is a benchmark example of why. Vineyard & Production Sangiovese grapes are harvested from 26 hectares of south-southwest-facing vineyards planted between 1994 and 2005 at altitudes of 400 to 490 metres. The vines grow on a mix of sandstone (Macigno del Chianti), Galestro (Scaglia Toscana) and Alberese (Monte Morello) soils, each contributing to the wine's complexity and mineral character. Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless steel at 24 to 27 degrees with 14 to 16 days of skin contact. The wine is then aged for 23 months in 500-litre tonneaux, 30% new and 70% second use, before bottling. Tasting Notes Deep ruby in colour with aromas of ripe red cherry, wild herbs and subtle spice. The palate is structured and refined, with layers of red berry fruit, balsamic notes and a mineral backbone reflecting the diversity of Brolio's soils. Fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity provide balance and length, leading to a persistent, elegant finish. Perfect Pairings A natural partner for
