Graacher Riesling Feinherb, Willi Schaefer, Mosel 2024
From Himmelreich and Domprobst fruit, this is wonderfully expressive with a generous herbaceous character, lively citrus fruits and notes of violets. Airy, as these Schaefer wines so often feel, and pure. The palate shows some rich peach, apricot and soft red fruits at first, and continues a theme of delicacy through a very bright, perfumed and juicy finish with just a touch of salinity. Just about off-dry, this will drink on release and will develop over the coming few years. 0-7 years.
Te Mata Estate Pinot Noir, Hawke's Bay 2024
Tinned red fruits and leafy Pinot aromas, ripe red cherry and plumper darker notes, with low level hints of pepper and spice. Ripe and dense with very good freshness. The palate is medium weight and juicy, a savoury vein lends structure, as does a little wood tannin and sap. Supple, complex and long, got us thinking of Saint-Aubin.
