Il Debbio Cabernet Franc 2020
'Emilio Falsini is a Tuscan-born wine consultant who works on just two quite differing projects: Nerello Mascalese vines grown on the northern slope of Etna at Contrada Feudo Pignatone, and Cabernet Franc vineyards in Debbiacci Le Sondraie in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. Il Debbio Cabernet Franc Costa Toscana is created from a selection of Cabernet Franc grapes grown along the Tuscan coast in one of the most beautiful settings this region has proved to possess some of the best conditions for growing this noble variety, which has found a new home in this corner of Tuscany. The choice of grapes for Il Debbio involves the careful selection of the best bunches in the vineyard, followed by the separate vinification of the most appropriate parcels according to the climate trends over the year, resulting in an elegant wine with a strong varietal identity and a mineral imprint. A fresh, dynamic wine that delivers a modern interpretation of Costa Toscana Cabernet Franc. The hand-harvested grapes were vinified in small open containers, about 30% whole bunches, with skin contact for 15 days with daily punching down. Ageing for 58% of the wine was in cocciopesto amphora for 10 months; the remaining 42% in small barrels for 10 months.'
Rockburn Pinot Noir Central Otago 2023
Rockburn Wines was founded by Richard Bunton in 1991 in Central Otago, New Zealand. Winemaker Malcolm Rees-Francis joined in 2005 from Felton Road, bringing expertise that quickly elevated Rockburn to one of New Zealand’s premier Pinot Noir producers. The estate follows sustainable viticulture practices and holds Sustainable Wines of New Zealand certification. Rockburn Pinot Noir is celebrated globally for its elegance, finesse, and expressive style. Vineyard Situated on the 45th parallel, Rockburn’s vineyards enjoy a climate similar to Burgundy, with extreme diurnal temperature variations that encourage complexity in the grapes. The estate’s vineyards lie between contrasting landscapes: rainforest-clad mountains to the west and a dry, barren eastern terrain. The Pinot Noir grapes are sourced from two sites: Parkburn, planted in loam over river gravel, and Gibbston, with deeper alluvial gravel soils. Clones include 10/5, 5,6, Abel, 667, and 777, trained using the Vertical Shoot Positioning (VSP) system to optimise sun exposure and airflow. Winemaking Grapes are cool-macerated for several days prior to fermentation in large fermenters, with daily plunging to extract colour, tannins, and aromatics. Post-fermentation maceration and inclusion of some whole bunches add complexity. The wine is matured in 100% French oak barrels, with a portion of new and one-year-old barrels, enhancing texture and structure while maintaining purity of fruit. Tasting Notes A beautifully textured and elegant Pinot Noir, offering expressive aromas of plum, black cherry, and subtle mocha, layered with delicate oak. Silky tannins wrap the palate, leading to a long, refined finish. This wine epitomises Rockburn’s hallmark elegance, integrity, and balance. Grape Variety Pinot Noir 100%
