Il Debbio Cabernet Franc 2020
'Emilio Falsini is a Tuscan-born wine consultant who works on just two quite differing projects: Nerello Mascalese vines grown on the northern slope of Etna at Contrada Feudo Pignatone, and Cabernet Franc vineyards in Debbiacci Le Sondraie in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. Il Debbio Cabernet Franc Costa Toscana is created from a selection of Cabernet Franc grapes grown along the Tuscan coast in one of the most beautiful settings this region has proved to possess some of the best conditions for growing this noble variety, which has found a new home in this corner of Tuscany. The choice of grapes for Il Debbio involves the careful selection of the best bunches in the vineyard, followed by the separate vinification of the most appropriate parcels according to the climate trends over the year, resulting in an elegant wine with a strong varietal identity and a mineral imprint. A fresh, dynamic wine that delivers a modern interpretation of Costa Toscana Cabernet Franc. The hand-harvested grapes were vinified in small open containers, about 30% whole bunches, with skin contact for 15 days with daily punching down. Ageing for 58% of the wine was in cocciopesto amphora for 10 months; the remaining 42% in small barrels for 10 months.'
Sierra Cantabria, Crianza, (Magnum) 2020
The 2020 Sierra Cantabria Crianza is an expressive Rioja that shows just how good Tempranillo can be in the right hands. Bright cherry and red plum aromas lead the way, layered with subtle notes of vanilla, spice, and a touch of toast from its time in oak. On the palate it’s medium-bodied, fresh, and silky, with juicy red fruit flavours balanced by gentle tannins and lively acidity. That classic Rioja elegance - polished yet easy to enjoy - makes this Crianza just as good with a weeknight roast chicken as it is alongside grilled lamb or tapas with friends. Made by the legendary Eguren family in Rioja, it spends 14 months in American and French oak, giving it a perfect balance of fruit and spice. A total crowd-pleaser!
