Joseph Mellot La Grande Châtelaine is an exceptional, barrel-fermented expression of Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc crafted from the estate's oldest vines, rooted in the prized caillottes soils pebble-rich clay-limestone that imparts depth, finesse, and a finely etched mineral character. These mature vines produce naturally low yields, giving fruit of impressive concentration and balance with remarkable aromatic intensity and poised elegance. Why You'll Love It This is Sancerre at its pinnacle rich, structured, and beautifully complex with layers of texture and refined longevity. Joseph Mellot is one of the Loire Valley's most historic and respected estates, and La Grande Châtelaine represents their finest expression of Sancerre. Fermented and matured in French oak barrels (including a proportion of new oak) within the historic cellars in the heart of Sancerre, with extended ageing on fine lees and further bottle maturation, this wine offers exceptional quality and complexity that sets it apart from standard Sancerre. Vineyard & Production Sourced from the estate's oldest vines rooted in prized caillottes soils pebble-rich clay-limestone that imparts depth, finesse, and finely etched mineral character. These mature vines produce naturally low yields with impressive concentration. Grapes are pressed slowly to preserve purity and definition. After cold settling, the wine is fermented in French oak barrels with a carefully judged proportion of new oak to enhance structure. Maturation on fine lees brings depth and roundness, and bottle ageing ensures complete harmony before release. Tasting Notes Rich aromas of pineapple, pear, and gentle vanilla. Textured palate shaped by fine oak integration and vibrant mineral tension. The finish is long, layered, and elegant with remarkable complexity. Yarra Yering, Chardonnay, - Half 2021
Est. delivery in August, 2026 Yarra Yering is one of those names that demands a moment of respect. Founded by the late Dr Bailey Carrodus in 1969, it was among the first wineries to re-establish viticulture in the Yarra Valley, and it has never stopped making wines that feel genuinely sui generis. This Chardonnay is a half bottle, which means it will evolve a touch faster than its full-sized sibling — all the more reason to open it with purpose over a proper dinner rather than squirrel it away indefinitely. The 2021 vintage in the Yarra was cool and precise, which shows here in spades: white peach and grapefruit with struck flint and a savoury, toasted-nut character from well-integrated oak. The palate is taut and focused, with real drive from the acidity and a mineral persistence that lingers long after the glass is empty.
