Kalfu Sumpai Syrah 2017
A deep violet red, medium volume in the mouth with crisp acidity and great freshness. The round, firm tannins underpin a gentle, elegant background of French oak in which spices intermingle with herbs. The grapes were 100% hand-harvested. Prior to fermentation, the must underwent a cold maceration for a period of 7 days. Once the alcoholic fermentation was underway, gentle extraction took place. The wine was then aged in Burgundian French oak barrels for 12 months; 15% new, 25% second use and the remaining 60% were third or fourth use. Victor Berard Vacqueyras 2024
Victor Berard Vacqueyras is a rich, characterful red from one of the southern Rhone's most exciting appellations. Crafted from a classic Grenache-led blend, it delivers the warmth, depth, and spice that have made Vacqueyras one of the region's most sought-after names, sitting comfortably alongside its more famous neighbour Chateauneuf-du-Pape at a fraction of the price. Why You'll Love It Vacqueyras earned its own appellation status in 1990, recognised for producing wines of genuine complexity and terroir expression from its distinctive mix of clay, limestone, and sandy soils. Victor Berard is a trusted name in the southern Rhone, producing wines that are true to the appellation's character, generous, structured, and built to complement food. This is the southern Rhone at its most rewarding. Vineyard & Production The vineyards of Vacqueyras sit on a varied mosaic of soils including clay, limestone, and sandy terraces, sheltered by the Dentelles de Montmirail and warmed by the Provencal sun. The Grenache-led blend is vinified to maximise fruit expression and natural structure, with careful extraction to achieve the balance of richness and freshness that defines the best wines of the appellation. Tasting Notes Deep ruby in colour with garnet hues. The nose is generous and expressive, with dark cherry, blackberry, garrigue, and warm spice. On the palate, full-bodied and rounded with ripe fruit, a hint of leather and pepper, well-integrated tannins, and a long, satisfying finish. Perfect Pairings A natural partner for roasted lamb, beef daube, wild boar, grilled sausages, and hearty Provencal dishes. Also excellent alongside mature hard cheeses or a well-stocked charcuterie board. The Blend Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre
