Ktima Gerovassiliou Chardonnay 2023

Ktima Gerovassiliou is the creation of Evangelos Gerovassiliou, who revived the family vineyard by planting the nearly-extinct Malagousia in 1981. Today, the estate encompasses 100 hectares of carefully maintained, certified sustainable vineyards on the slopes of Epanomi. The winery is renowned for consistent, high-quality wines of international acclaim, and the estate’s Chardonnay reflects the same dedication to precision and terroir expression. Vintage The 2023 vintage benefited from a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers, tempered by cooling sea breezes. Low yields contributed to concentrated fruit and expressive aromatics. The harvest was hand-picked, with careful attention to the ripening conditions, ensuring grapes of optimal quality. Vineyard The Chardonnay vines have been established since 1983. Soils are primarily sandy, with clayey substrates and calcareous rocks, enriched with sea fossils due to historic sea deposits. The vineyard is low yielding and meticulously managed by hand, following ecologically sustainable practices. Surrounded on three sides by the sea, the vineyard enjoys a maritime influence that moderates temperatures and enhances freshness in the fruit. Winemaking Cold skin-contact maceration at the start of vinification enhanced varietal aromatics. Fermentation took place in French oak barrels, followed by seven months’ maturation on fine lees in medium-toasted French oak, adding richness, creaminess, and texture to the wine. Tasting Notes The wine shows perfumed aromas of ripe pineapple, melon, and orange blossom, layered with toasty butterscotch. The palate is opulent and creamy, with a rich texture, subtle spicy minerality, and balanced freshness that carries through a long, elegant finish. Grape Variety 100% Chardonnay
