Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay 2023

Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay is a premium expression of Chardonnay drawn from six carefully selected vineyard sites within the Kumeu region. Only the finest grapes are chosen to maintain the consistent high standard of the Estate label, reflecting over 35 years of dedication to quality winemaking. The wine is made to emphasise purity of fruit, elegance, and balance, with minimal intervention to highlight the character of the Kumeu terroir. Meet the producer Kumeu River is one of New Zealand’s most respected wineries, renowned for producing world-class Chardonnays that reflect the cool-climate conditions of the Kumeu region. The winery has built its reputation over decades for precise viticulture and meticulous winemaking practices. Production The grapes are hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in 100% French oak barrels, with 100% undergoing malolactic fermentation. No new oak is used, relying instead on 1- and 2-year-old barrels to provide balance and subtle complexity. The wine matures for 11 months in barrel, resulting in a refined, elegant style. Tasting notes The wine opens with fragrant lemon aromas accented by hints of white peach. On the palate it is silky, balanced, and fresh, with a precise citrus-driven finish. This Chardonnay is approachable now but will continue to develop beautifully over 4–6 years of bottle age. Food match Pairs beautifully with lightly cooked fish, seafood, roasted chicken, and creamy pasta dishes. Grape Chardonnay 100% Vinification Hand harvested, whole-bunch pressed, indigenous yeast fermentation, 100% barrel fermentation, 100% malolactic fermentation, matured 11 months in French oak barrels.

Poppies Pinot Gris 2022

' Poppy and Shayne Hammond, with a selected group of like-minded people, set out to forge their own direction in making wines with tradition flowing through the glass. Fashions and fads come and go, however, they believe traditional wines have the essence and romance of longevity. It is the intention of Poppies Martinborough to make beautifully hand-crafted wines that simply show the character and evoke the varietal flavours and purity of expression from the land and the hands of the makers. Staying true to outcome is vital and when you drink their wines from any different season you will always see the family resemblance¦ thus a true Poppies Martinborough wine is made how they love to drink. The Hammonds strongly believe that they are simply caretakers of the land. From this they farm their vineyards with a minimalist approach, respecting the power Mother Nature possesses, never interfering, more allowing her strength to direct. A biological and organic approach to farming is the preference, although not certified, within a commercial footprint - they are cautious and respectful utilising science, technology and understanding the past. They live through their land for their wines. '
