LA CHAPELLE D'AUSONE Grand Cru Saint Emilion 2021
Cloves and sage spices, touches of fennel, redcurrant, with a brightness to it that is rare in 2021, and fine tannins that give form to the fruit. Cleary lighter than in most years, but unquestionable finesse. As I noted during En Primeur, one of the rare 2nd wines that truly delivers in 2021n abd is one to look out for. Philippe Baillarguet cellar master, harvest October 4 to 6. 90% new oak (down from 100% in most years). Single point upgrade.
MONTHÉLIE Domaine Dugat-Py 2019
A particular success is the début 2019 Monthélie Rouge, a lovely wine that unwinds to reveal notes of raspberries, plums, orange rind, spices and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's tightly wound and mineral, with real intensity and cut. I sensed that Loïc was just as taken aback by how well this has turned out as I was. Four barrels were produced.
