La Crema Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2022
La Crema Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2021 is a sophisticated expression of cool-climate Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast AVA, renowned for its coastal breezes, foggy mornings, and well-draining soils. This wine captures the elegance, depth, and refined structure that Pinot Noir is celebrated for. Meet the producer La Crema, founded in 1979, specialises in cool-climate vineyards across California. Family-owned and operated, the winery focuses on handcrafting wines that showcase the distinctive character of each appellation. Vineyard and vintage The Sonoma Coast vineyards benefit from a maritime influence that moderates summer temperatures, allowing grapes to ripen slowly and develop complex aromatics. The 2021 vintage saw a dry winter followed by a mild spring and warm summer, producing fruit with intense flavour and bright acidity. Winemaking Grapes are hand-picked, gently de-stemmed, and cold-soaked for several days before fermentation in small open-top tanks. The wine is aged 8–9 months in French oak barrels (33% new) to integrate texture, structure, and subtle oak nuances, with careful blending prior to bottling. Tasting notes The nose reveals aromas of black cherry, raspberry, and earthy spice. On the palate, flavours of ripe cherry, boysenberry, and subtle hints of cola and cinnamon unfold, supported by fine tannins and balanced acidity. The finish is elegant, lingering, and refined. ' Morlanda was founded in 1997 in Bellmunt del Priorat. The estate is located in the south-western end of Priorat and is comprised of 82 hectares of forest, 22 of which are planted with vines ranging from 20 to 80 years old. They are currently focusing on more sustainable management of the vineyard. It is a challenge to change from conventional growing to more respectful growing. They are proud to be one of the first wineries to use probiotics, ultimately steering the way toward sustainable agriculture. Soils Llicorella soils: rocky soils formed by Quartenary slate that contribute to the unique, minerality characteristic of Priorat. Calcareous clay soils: where there is a predominance of sediments from the erosion and sedimentation of rivers. Red soils: red clays common on the edge of the region, widespread on some of their plots. '
