La Giaretta, Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore 2022

La Giaretta's Ripasso showcases everything we love about this distinctly Veronese technique. After their regular Valpolicella ferments, they pass it over the still-warm pomace from their Amarone production, triggering a second fermentation that adds depth, concentration, and that characteristic silky texture. The 2022 delivers ripe cherry and plum wrapped in warming spices, with enough structure to handle hearty dishes but sufficient charm to drink now. It's Ripasso as it should be: more serious than straight Valpolicella, more approachable than Amarone, and utterly satisfying on its own terms.

Grown on carefully selected parcels in Luján de Cuyo and Agrelo, many from vines averaging 45 years old, this wine showcases the elegance and aromatic complexity that makes Cabernet Franc so distinctive. Crafted by Roberto de la Mota, one of Argentina's most respected winemakers, this wine offers refined structure, vibrant fruit, and remarkable balance. Why You'll Love It This is premium Argentine Cabernet Franc from one of Mendoza's most respected producers. Roberto de la Mota's expertise shines through in this elegant wine sourced from 45-year-old vines in the prestigious Luján de Cuyo and Agrelo regions. With 12 months in French and American oak and meticulous winemaking including manual pigeage, this wine offers exceptional quality and complexity at an outstanding price point. Meet the Producer Mendel Wines blends the expertise of Roberto de la Mota, one of Argentina's most respected winemakers, with the tradition of a well-established Argentine family, producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of Luján de Cuyo and Agrelo with precision and elegance. Production Hand-harvested grapes are sorted and 100% destemmed, with manual berry selection. Fermentation and maceration take place in a combination of concrete and 80-hectolitre tanks, with daily manual pigeage for around two weeks. The wine then spends 12 months ageing in new and used American and French oak, with minimal filtration before bottling. Tasting Notes Deep, rich ruby in colour, the nose reveals aromas of red berries, violets, herbs, and subtle spice. The palate is medium to full-bodied with elegant structure, vibrant fruit flavours, fine tannins, and a lingering, harmonious finish. Perfect Pairings Pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, roasted beef, pork, duck, or herb-crusted meats. Also excellent with aged cheeses and hearty vegetable dishes.
