Lochlea x Overtone Stout Cask Finish Single Malt Whisky

Lochlea x Overtone Stout Cask Finish Single Malt Whisky is a limited edition collaboration between Lochlea Distillery in Ayrshire and Glasgow’s Overtone Brewery. Bottled at 52% ABV, non‑chill filtered and with no added colour, it preserves its natural character and showcases the distillery’s commitment to authenticity and craftsmanship. This second and final release in the partnership was matured in just five casks: three stout‑seasoned (two Bourbon barrels and one STR barrique), one first fill Bourbon barrel and one ex‑peated Bourbon barrel. The result is a whisky that deepens the stout’s earthy, chocolatey character while enhancing sweet vanilla and gentle smoke, carefully married to harmonise the flavours. The nose opens with rich notes of sweet stout beer, light smoke and oak. The palate is layered and indulgent, delivering creamy vanilla, cinder toffee and rich BBQ smoke. The finish lingers with warming spice, green oak, rye bread and cereal notes, leaving a complex and satisfying impression. Produced by Lochlea, an independent family‑run distillery dedicated to local ingredients, sustainable practices and full on‑site maturation, this whisky reflects both tradition and innovation. The collaboration with Overtone Brewery, which began with shared casks used to mature stout before being returned for whisky finishing, has resulted in a distinctive spirit that offers a familiar yet unique profile. This release marks the final chapter in the Overtone partnership, crafted with passion and precision for whisky lovers to savour.

North Star Obscurities Curiosities Lindores Abbey 6 Year Old 60% Single Malt Scotch Whisky

North Star Obscurities & Curiosities Lindores Abbey 6 Year Old is a punchy, character‑driven single malt that shows just how much personality a young whisky can have when bottled at full strength. Distilled at the revived Lindores Abbey distillery and matured for six years before being selected by North Star, it comes alive at 60%, carrying a mix of bright orchard fruit, creamy sweetness and lively spice that feels both youthful and surprisingly composed. It opens with a burst of baked apples, pear drops and vanilla fudge, wrapped in a gentle malty warmth. There’s a clean, almost herbal freshness underneath, the kind of note that hints at new‑make vibrancy but in a way that adds energy rather than roughness. As it settles, richer tones appear: honeycomb, toasted barley, a touch of lemon oil and a soft biscuity depth from the cask. On the palate the high strength makes itself known immediately, but once the heat eases it reveals layers of sweet malt, stewed apples, creamy toffee and a lively peppery kick. There’s a pleasant waxy texture that gives the whisky weight, along with flashes of citrus and spice that keep it bright and engaging. A little water opens it up further, bringing out softer vanilla, pastry notes and a rounded fruitiness. The finish is warm and persistent, with lingering malt sweetness, gentle oak spice and a final lift of citrus. It’s a bold, youthful, flavour‑forward dram that shows off Lindores Abbey’s spirit in a vivid, unfiltered way, exactly the kind of bottling North Star’s Obscurities & Curiosities series is known for.
