Maison De Montille, Chablis Premier Cru 'Les Fourchaumes', Domaine de Montille 2023
"Half-aged in stainless steel and half in 600L barrels, this wine offers a delicate balance of minerality, floral hints, and soft citrus. Its prettiness and finesse make it a charming example of Chablis without any new oak influence." Our note The 2023 vintage reflects a year of moderate warmth with consistent sunshine, leading to steady, well-paced ripening. Although temperatures weren’t extreme, the shift to warmer nights and milder days contributed to extended growing periods. This translated into wines that are strikingly fresh, with lower alcohol levels, vivid acidity, and vibrant character—brighter and more approachable compared to recent years. Both red and white wines achieved impressive yields, the largest ever recorded for the estate, with terroir expression and balance shining through. Whites carry their hallmark freshness and minerality, further underscored by the decision to reduce the percentage of new oak due to the larger volumes produced. The domaine features as one of the Top 10 Côte de Beaune Red Wine, and White Wine Producers in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2023 Special Report.
Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Pernot-Belicard 2016
Pernot-Belicard's 2016 Puligny is classic, understated elegance - cool citrus and white peach wrapped in a fine veil of florals, with a quiet mineral line that tightens and lengthens as it opens. On the palate it’s poised and gently textural, offering just enough mid-weight creaminess before tapering into a saline, stone-etched finish. 2016 was challenging but rewarding: frost cut yields dramatically, yet what remained was wonderfully concentrated, pure and finely balanced. Pernot-Belicard turned adversity into precision, producing wines with real focus and drive. Pernot-Belicard is one of Puligny’s rising stars, run by Paul Pernot’s grandson, Philippe. Since taking over in the early 2010s, he’s tightened viticulture, refined élevage and pushed quality to impressive heights.
