Marimar Estate Acero Chardonnay Russian River 2023

Marimar Estate Acero is a crisp, unoaked Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley in California , crafted to highlight the purity and intensity of its fruit. Named after the Spanish word for steel, this white wine is fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel, allowing the natural aromatics and vibrant flavours of the grapes to shine without the influence of oak. Why You'll Love It Marimar Torres established her eponymous estate in the Russian River Valley in 1986, bringing the Torres family's passion for quality and terroir-driven winemaking to one of California's finest cool-climate wine regions. The Acero Chardonnay is the purest expression of this philosophy, stripping away oak to reveal the true character of the Don Miguel Vineyard fruit. For lovers of Chablis or unoaked Burgundy, this is a California Chardonnay that will genuinely surprise and delight. Vineyard & Production Grapes come from the Don Miguel Vineyard, named after the late patriarch of the Torres family, situated in the Green Valley just ten miles from the Pacific Ocean. The vineyard benefits from cool, foggy mornings and a long growing season, with high-density planting of over 2,000 vines per acre ensuring low yields, excellent concentration, and superb balance. Grapes are gently whole-cluster pressed and cold fermented in stainless steel tanks, remaining in steel until bottling to preserve the wine's natural freshness and vibrancy. Tasting Notes Fresh, floral aromas of white flowers and apple blossom on the nose, with hints of citrus and stone fruits. On the palate, it is lively and savoury, with crisp acidity and a refreshing minerality reminiscent of wet pebbles. Best served chilled at around 8 to 9 degrees. Perfect Pairings Pairs beautifully with seafood, shellfish, sushi, and lighter dishes. Also excellent as an aperitif or alongside tapas and fresh goats cheese. Grape Varieties Chardonnay 100%

Pernand-Vergelesses, Maison Pierre Meurgey 2022

Our second vintage from Pierre, who divides his time between vineyards in Macon and the Cote d’Or, the latter being made in Chateau de Bligny, formerly the winemaking base of Jane Eyre. Pierre characterises 2022 has having “ ripeness and preserved freshness" . He suggests that despite the hot year the wines do not have the same concentration as 2020 - which were more forced because of the early harvest, and instead show a greater natural balance, being made from “ happy fruit ” as he puts it. He notes the wines have gained more body during élévage but retain a fresher style than normal solar vintages. Head Wine Guru Tom's notes are a little brief as an unexpected appointment to taste the Hospices de Beaune 2023 wines at the cuverie prior to this year’s auction cut across our appointment so we raced through these wines with almost indecent haste! We highly suggest you take your time to appreciate them more leisurely as there is plenty to enjoy here. “Fermented in barrel, one out of three of which was new. Rich, ripe orchard fruit, a touch of green mango too but also grapefruit and chamomile. The palates balances opulence and vivacity, with a core of waxed pear and preserved lemon that gives succulence and tension. This is really good. Must revisit.” Tom Harrow, Head Wine Guru
